Extensive research into the anatomical engineering for the shoulder and hand were required for the mobility. Adequate range of motion in all 18 joints in the human arm was necessary for the wearer to perform the poses and iconic actions of the beloved character. Though this is a prosthetic arm in the anime, well fitted plastic pieces with full range of motion were required to make this look like a bionic arm and not armor sitting on top of the skin.
